National Thank A Mail Carrier Day | National Hemp Day

Transcript for February 4th

Welcome to February 4th on the National Day Calendar.  Today we give thanks for two threads of American culture which have been part of our fabric for centuries.   More after the break from our founder, Marlo Anderson.

While the Pony Express did not officially take off until 1860, the work ethic expressed in their motto “Through rain or snow, or sleet or hail, we’ll carry the mail.  We will not fail.” was already established by the first Postmaster General in 1775. This distinguished fellow made many historical contributions, but his design of our country’s mail service is still in use today.  On National Thank a Mail Carrier Day, be sure to show your appreciation to the men and women who bring your daily posts, through rain or shine and remember the one who organized it all, Benjamin Franklin.

Did you know that hemp has been a part of human civilization for thousands of years?  Our founding fathers even drafted early documents on hemp paper. The “Hemp for Victory” campaign during WWII encouraged farmers to grow hemp for military use and today, the 2018 Farm Bill encourages an explosive growth in hemp products from CBD, clothing, plastics and bio-fuels.  National Hemp Day proudly weaves a new celebration around a plant with a long and innovative history!
