While you won’t find the Gumdrop King on the Candyland Board Game in Gumdrop Mountain, his contribution surely paved the road for all such gummy fun and games.  The chemist known as Percy Truesdell altered the amount of starch used in manufacturing a hard glob of sugar candy that later became the smooth, chewy delight we all celebrate today.  Percy was posthumously named “The Gumdrop King” and on National Gumdrop Day we celebrate his sweet success.National African American History Month, takes place in the month of February to coincide with the birthdays of President Abraham Lincoln and noted civil rights advocate Frederick Douglass. Created by twentieth-century historian Carter Woodson, this month is a time for all Americans to celebrate the achievements of African Americans and recognize their central role in American history.  Up next Woodson’s own journey is celebrated as our hero of the day.
