National Girl Scout Day | National Plant A Flower Day

Transcript for March 12th

Welcome to March 12th on the National Day Calendar.  Today we celebrate the very best investments and the beautiful rewards they continue to reap.  Let’s join Anna Devere after the break.

In 1912, when Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Scout meeting in Savannah, GA with 18 girls, we bet she never imagined the organization growing to a staggering 3.7 million. Armed with the simple motto of “Be Prepared” and the slogan to “Do a Good Turn Daily” the Girl Scout Program has more than done it’s share to build courage, confidence and character in its young women ever since.   On National Girl Scout Day celebrate the power of the cookie and the powerhouses like Elizabeth Dole and Natalie Merchant that it promotes.

Whether or not you’re prepared for Spring, the season for planting has sprung.  If you’re crafty like the Lorax, you probably buried some bulbs last fall and the first yellow daffodils and crocuses are your colorful reward.  But if your thumb is far from green, don’t despair! It’s easy enough to capture the sunshine with some indoor, starter plants that are all too happy to bloom where they’re planted.  On National Plant a Flower Day grab your piece of the rainbow and get to growing!
