Transcript for March 24th

Welcome to March 24th, 2020 on the National Day Calendar.  Today we celebrate our favorite flick sidekick and a brawl in the City of Brotherly Love.  More after the break from our founder, Marlo Anderson.

A trip to the movies just isn’t complete without an assortment of snacks. Popcorn is a given, but a true connoisseur knows that chocolate-covered raisins are where it’s at.  Raisinets are number 3 on the list of all-time best-selling candies, with over one million of them produced every hour! But hey—they’re not “just” a candy. There IS a raisin in there, so it’s kind of like eating fruit, right? On National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day, celebrate the healthy side of movie snacking.

The Philadelphia intersection of East Passyunk and South 9th Street is home to a fierce battle, but it’s not a beef over sports or politics, this fight is about cheesesteak. Located across the street from one another these rival restaurants, Pat’s and Geno’s are the two most famous cheesesteak contenders. Locals have drawn sides on which is the best, but on one thing they agree: When you order, you gotta say, “Whiz Wit or Whiz Widdout.” (If you’re not from Philly, here’s a tip: the cheese on cheesesteaks is usually Cheez Whiz. WIT means you also want onions. WIDDOUT means you don’t.) Though you don’t need to travel to Philly to celebrate National Cheesesteak Day, if youse do, order like youse know what you’re talking about.
