National Tortilla Chip Day | National Engineers Week – Show Notes

Welcome to February 24th on the National Day Calendar.  Today we celebrate unexpected heroes who’s “think outside the box” is both practical and delicious.  More after the break from our founder, Marlo Anderson.

Take a look around you. The dizzying patchwork of roads, bridges, and causeways was once a dream in the mind of an engineer. These unsung heroes have a hand in practically every facet of modern life from skyscrapers to plumbing, and electrical grids. So much of our world would literally not exist without them. On National Engineers Week, take time to stop and admire the concrete jungle!

Not all heroes wear capes. In the 1940s, Rebecca Webb Caranza and Ignacio Anaya changed the course of snacking history. Caranza created tortilla chips by taking misshapen tortillas that couldn’t be sold, cut them into triangles, and fried them. A few years later, a man named Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya topped some tortilla chips with cheese and jalapeños, creating—you guessed it—nachos. Eat them with salsa, queso, or guacamole, but definitely have some today on National Tortilla Chip Day, and get crunching, amigos!
