Transcript for February 25th

Welcome to February 25th on the National Day Calendar.  Today we celebrate The Feast before the Sacrifice. More after the break from our founder, Marlo Anderson.

Around the world today folks are reaching their feasting peak with the tradition known as Fat Tuesday.  Also called Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday this day became synonymous with that “last hurrah” celebration of our favorite rich foods, which some give up on Ash Wednesday with the advent of Lent, a time of fasting and reflection.  The long history of partying like there’s no tomorrow or at least no tomorrow with carbs features the emptying of our pantries of all things delicious and becomes a “who’s who of the rich and delicious” from every corner of the globe. Whether you celebrate in carnival costume with alcohol, king bread and etouffee or a more modest “pancakes for dinner” party, enjoy Fat Tuesday for all it’s worth.

While your pets may not feel like celebrating this day, the compassionate reminder to spay and neuter animals was championed by the likes of both Doris Day and Bob Barker.  Spay USA Day, founded by the Doris Day Animal League in 1994, has helped decrease the problem of overpopulation of stray dogs and cats throughout the United States. And although this message doesn’t translate so well in your pet’s language, you can be sure “The Price is Right.”
